Holland Invitational

Eagles go 3-2

The wrestling team lost to Rockford and Hudson, and beat Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Coloma and West Ottawa. Marcos Diaz went 5-0 on the day with five pins! This takes our record to 5-3 at Christmas.

Lansing Eastern

The Varsity team finished 6th out of 16 teams, behind: Saint Johns, Hesperia, Howell, Temperance Bedford and Grand Haven. Placing were: Matt Igo (7), Pat Byars (7), Marcos Diaz (2), Jared Zimmerman (1), Carl Nystrom (6), Ryan Luyk (7), Jake Dean (3), Zach VanEss (6), and Paul Carbone (2).

Allendale Tournament (JV)

The JV team took second place at the Allendale tournament on Saturday.

Hamilton Quad Results

The 09-10 Season began on Wednesday night with the eagles dropping their first match by 22 points to Stevensville Lakeshore. We followed this up with a 65-12 win over Plainwell. Going undefeated for the varsity were: Jared Zimmerman, Carl Nystrom, Jake Dean, Joey Steffes, and Paul Carbone.

The JV team also wrestled great!

17 Wrestlers Planning on Attending U of M Camp

We are excited to have seventeen athletes that have decided to go to the U of M wrestling camp to continue to improve. These seventeen wrestlers are:

Individual State Finals

The Individual State finals have come to a close. Justin Zimmerman wrestled a very complete weekend, finishing second in the state. Jared Zimmerman finished in fourth place, and shows a lot of promise for the next two years. Drew Jackson started the tournament by upsetting a first seed and finished in sixth place. Paul Carbone wrestled great, but came up short having a hard route through the tournament. The Eagles are excited to have three state qualifiers returning for next season!

State Finals Have Begun!!

Round one was completed tonight, with the Eagles going 3-1. Winning their opening round matches were: Jared Zimmerman (12-4), Justin Zimmerman (fall 5:34), and Drew Jackson (8-6 OT). Paul Carbone came up short in his match.

4 to the Finals!!

Four wrestlers have qualified for the individual state finals to be held at the Palace on March 12-14! They are Justin Zimmerman, who finished 1st in the regional winning in ultimate overtime. Jared Zimmerman who avenged a first round lost finishing third, Paul Carbone, who finished 4th and Drew Jackson who lost in overtime to finish 4th. Congratulations guys and good luck in a week and a half!!!

5 advance to Regionals

The individual portion of the season began yesterday when the Eagles were at Grand Haven for the individual district. Five of the fourteen wrestlers advanced to next weekends regional at Lansing Everett.

2nd at Team Districts

The eagles defeated Grandville by 12 points to advance to the district final against Jenison. In the final match, the eagles came up short against Jenison, finishing 2nd as a team.

Eagles finish 5th in the OK RED

The Eagles finished the regular season in 5th, having beat Grandville and West Ottawa. Having finished in seventh at the conference tournament, the Eagles ended up in a three way tie for fifth in the conference with Grandville and West Ottawa.

OK Red Conference Tournament

The Varsity Wrestling team finished 7th at the tournament. Placing for the Eagles were: Justin Zimmerman (1st), Jared Zimmerman (2nd), Drew Jackson (2nd), Jake Dean (4th), Zac Plowman (4th) and Marcos Diaz (4th).

The Varsity team put together their most complete dual of the season with a 47-18 victory over West Ottawa. Winning their matches were: Paul Carbone, Nate Miedema, Drew Jackson, Weston Kelke, Pat Byars, Jared Zimmerman, Marcos Diaz, Caleb Schutter, Justin Zimmerman and Jake Dean

Hastings Varsity Duals

The Varsity wrestling team wrestled well again on Saturday finishing in third place out of ten teams with a 4 and 1 record. The Eagles lost to Fowlerville 24-51. They beat Three Rivers 54-16, East Grand Rapids 66-6, Hastings B (77-6) and South Haven (58-10). Going 5-0 for the eagles were: Jared Zimmerman, Justin Zimmerman, and Jake Dean. Finishing at 4-1 were: Pat Byars, Marcos Diaz, Caleb Schutter, Nate Hop, Paul Carbone, Zac Plowman, and Drew Jackson. Finishing with 3 wins were: Nate Miedema, Jordan Koster, and Caleb Henderson.

Grandville Dual

The Hudsonville Wrestling team wrestled great Wednesday evening defeating visiting Grandville 45-20. Winning their matches were: Pat Byars, Jared Zimmerman, Marcos Diaz, Justin Zimmerman, Caleb Schutter, Jake Dean, Paul Carbone, Caleb Henderson, Zac Plowman, and Drew Jackson. The JV wrestlers were also successful winning eight of eleven matches wrestled.

Sparta Invitational

The Eagles finished in third place behind Greenville and Grand Haven. Placing first was Justin Zimmerman (130). Placing Second were Jared Zimmerman (119) and Jake Dean (140). Placing third were Marcos Diaz (125), Paul Carbone (145), and Drew Jackson (215). Placing fifth was Pat Byars (112). Placing sixth were: Nate Miedema (160) and Caleb Henderson (171).

Muskegon Dual

The Eagles got their first OK Red Dual win of the year with a 73-4 victory over Muskegon.

East Kentwood

The Varsity team came up just short against the Falcons dropping the match by 8 points.

Gary Rivers Memorial Tournament

The Varsity Wrestling team came in 9th out of 16 schools. The Eagles went 2-2 on the day beating Belding and Sturgis and two close matches to Hastings (14 points) and Coldwater (4 points).

Godwin Heights JV Tournament

Congratulations to the Junior Varsity wrestling team who had a great day on Saturday. The Eagles had 16 of the 19 wrestlers who entered the tournament medal. Tournament champions included Matt Igo, Ryan Rinck, Dominic Rens, Carl Nystrom and Ryan Luyk. Second place finishers included Jordan Miedema, Joey Steffes, Zach VanEss, Ryan Boersen, and John Fik. Third place finishers included Joey Rosekopf, Jacob Knoth and Zack Remtema. The fourth place finishers included Carl Lodenstein, Jason Champion, and Dallas Dickson.

Rockford Dual

Wednesday evening the varsity took on the #1 ranked team in the state. The Eagles wrestled great but dropped the match 19-42. Winning their matches were: Weston Kelke, Pat Byars, Justin Zimmerman, Caleb Schutter and Paul Carbone.

Eaton Rapids Tournament

The Varsity wrestling team finished in fourth. We dropped a couple of close matches to Grandville (lost by 6) and Eaton Rapids (lost by 7). This caused us to finish 2-3 on the day. Undefeated Individuals include: Jared Zimmerman, Justin Zimmerman and Jake Dean.
